| Create a Winning Business Card |
Believe it or not your business card can be the keys that unlock the doors of opportunity for you to win business.
Your business card is as important to your marketing efforts as every other component. In fact, a business card may prove itself to be the most critical part of your plan. That being said you shouldn’t assume that your business card would seal the deal for you. What you can anticipate is that your business card will create the sense professionalism that will impress your prospective client. Remember that a well-developed business card has significant bearing on how you are perceived as a vendor.
The actual elements of a business card typically include your name, title, company name, address, phone number(s), e-mail and web site.
Your initial objective should be to select a card that best fits your business, the industry you are in and most importantly you. As you begin the process of selecting a design for your cards, begin by visualizing the type of business image you wish to convey to customers and go from there. In the next few paragraphs we describe a few different types of business cards to help you prepare to create yours.
| General cards. General cards are typically made using black text on white card stock paper. You select this card when you simply want a card that conveys the facts about you and your business. For those who believe that “less is more” this type of card is perfect. There are clients that will appreciate this straightforward approach so definitely don’t overlook it. |
| Extravagant cards. Believe it or not, cards that are outlandish in nature can have a significant positive impact on a potential customer. There may be instances where an extravagant card can garner the attention you need to get your foot in the door. However, make sure that your card’s design has purpose and isn’t just extravagant in nature just because. Make every aspect of the card count for something. |
| Touch Focused cards. Initially you might consider only how a business card looks as you work to create yours, but don’t forget about how the card feels. Card designers have made bold moves in the development of the ways cards are made by ambitiously utilizing different materials and shapes in their designs. You may find that because the practice is still new and growing, you will probably pay more for touch focused cards than for regular cards. |
| Picture cards. Sometimes when multiple vendors bombard a potential customer at one time, it can be very difficult to get them to remember you. One way to overcome this is to place a picture of yourself on your business card. The expression, “a picture is worth a thousand words” definitely applies in this case. If nothing else it’s a great way to keep your face in front of the potential client. |
After you decide the type of card you want to create, your next step is to go to a printer to place your order. The most important factors that you will have to decide on when you get to the printer are weight, finish, color and quantity.
| Weight: You will generally find that business cards are printed on 80-pound cover stock. |
| Finish: The most widely chosen finish chosen by customers is the smooth finish. Your other options are linen and laid. |
| Color: There really is no limit to the number of actual choices you have in colors. You will find that most business cards have two different colors on the card. |
| Quantity: You will find that you will get a better deal by ordering larger quantities of cards if you are able because your cost per card drops significantly the more you order. |
